The Morgan Centenary Roadster 100 Register - Weekends Away.

The Morgan Centenary Roadster 100 Register
 - Weekends Away.

Having decided back in 2012 that the Register would only run All Morgans' Days biannually.

It was in 2013 that member Philip Loring offered to create an interim year 'Weekend Away', just for members, and what has now become an annual event was born with our first trip to The Vale of Evesham to drive The Blossom Trail.
We were to stay at very comfortable The Wroxton Hotel in the village of Wroxton just north of Banbury.
Here is our video record of our travels.
In 2015, Chris & Rosemary Atwood followed up organising our next Surrey Hills weekend.
This time we stayed at the Burford Bridge Hotel just north of Dorking.
The Hotel had just undergone a total restoration.

Our group enjoyed these weekends such that in 2016 we held the first annual event when Gerald & Mary Ladkin invited everyone to come to their 'Rothley' Weekend located in Leicestershire at the very stately Rothley Court Hotel complete  with its own Chapel.

In 2017 Chris & Rosemary stepped up again and arranged a lovely 'R100's Go West' weekend in the Dorset Town of Sherborn.
Our hotel, in the town center was the lovely Eastbury Hotel.

As we were close to the famous Haynes Motor Museum a group of us agreed to meet there for lunch on the way down. The exhibits provided a photo opportunity requiring a video show all of its own.

Then we moved on to the Eastbury Hotel to meet the rest of our group.

In 2018 my wife Ann & I welcomed the group to the Saxon Sussex weekend which we based in the lovely West Sussex village of Bosham located on Chichester Harbour.
Our Hotel was the pretty Millstream Hotel in the village.

2019 was our last event with 2020 having to be cancelled due to the Covid 19 virus.
Chris and Rosemary chose the 'R100 Tour de Yorkshire' for our next venue in the Village of Easingwold where we stayed at the George Hotel.

Members Sam & Sue Dron kindly arranged for those travelling on Friday Morning to meet at the Morgan Dealership of Phil & Joyce Ledgerwood located in the village of Winterton, where we received their kind hospitality, a lovely buffet lunch and everyone departed for our tour across the Humber Bridge with a very practical Goody Bag with which to remember the visit.

My First Trip Out in the Roadster 100 for Three Months Since Lockdown.

My First Trip Out in the Roadster 100 for Three Months, Since Lockdown.

Having been in strict Lock Down for the whole time, today I took the opportunity to give The Green Goddess her first run in three months. This is a major change as she always used to get a run out at least once a month throughout the year.

Having given the car a deep clean with Maguire's Clay and Mer Polish the deep shine is not evident in these photos?

This is also the first outing for our new All Morgans' Day 2020 Car Badge (2nd from left) and a new set of attaching Stainless Steel Bolts.

I haven't even closed the garage door.

Our route plan today is to make a visit to the village of Exton in the Meon Valley, travelling via Fareham, Wickham and Droxford. We will return via Bishops Waltham, Botley and Titchfield. That should move the oil around.

Wickham Village Centre which we will bypass on the A32, The Meon Valley Road.

The A32 snakes through the village of Droxford approximately 5 Miles north from Fareham.

Again the road sweeps past the Villages of Corhampton & Meonstoke.
It is a shame to see so many popular pubs along the route all closed due to Covid 19.

We finally arrive in Exton Village.

It was less than a mile on that we took a left turn into the Village and our turning place.

'The Shoe' holds many memories of our youth when we made frequent visits to play the Bar Billiards table and enjoy the company here.

The River Meon runs through the village and here in the Pub Garden across the lane many a balmy summers evening was spent watching the Rainbow Trout leaping for the midges hovering just above the water.

Our son Robin, my passenger, can just be seen beneath the overhanging tree.

The Shoe has been in lockdown with no signs of any preparation for re opening next month

This cottage holds some history for our family as we intended to purchase it back in 1975 just following a complete renovation.

Then we heard that the village tended to flood following heavy storms so our offer was swiftly with drawn. Presumably the following owners managed to live with these occurrences?

The lane winding through the village climbs out over Corhampton Downs.

Some 45 years ago the land on the opposite side of the river was not part of the property.

However, over the years these new builds have been added and significant improvements have been made. A novel use of the slide into the river.

I wonder if they include Fishing Rights?

The fast flowing shallow stream as I look for any trout lurking among the weed.

Shoe Cottage next to The Shoe Inn

The Village Phone Box and Post Box located next to this Classic Car owners cottage. One wonders if it was ever the village Post Office?

The Gates to Exton Court Estate

A useful alternative parking spot as I wait for my son to complete his photography.

Back on the road we take the B3035 which is a lovely driving road which takes us over the Downs to Bishops Waltham where we take a cut through the villages One way system

The Narrow Street. Two Way at this end - One way coming this way at the other end.

As we head for Botley on the B3035 we pass the Bishops Waltham Palace grounds on our right. Located behind a high wall it is obscured from our view.

The Palace, as it was originally thought to appear, was used by the Bishops & Clergy of Winchester before it was badly damaged during the Civil War of 1642 to 49.

We almost reach the Village of Botley, located at the head of the River Hamble, but turn off onto the A3051 just before the village and head back south eastwards towards the narrow streets of Titchfield and home.

Titchfield, South Street with is traffic calming alterations making the road even narrower.

Along the way, we pass through the riverside village of Swanwick, seen here from the air.

Back home after just an hour having enjoyed every minute of escape from the confinement of home.

A Virtual All Morgans' Day - Event History Video Story

Virtual All Morgans' Day - Event History Video Story

Saturday 6th June

With June 7th being our 2020 (Virtual) All Morgans' Day, here is how we would normally be spending our Saturdays.

The Day Before All Morgans' Day.mp4

.............................................

Sunday 7th June

It is 8.00am on a Gloriously Sunny 7th June 2020 in Oxfordshire, England, and the Gates of Virtual All Morgans' Day have finally opened. Please join with us for a nostalgic visit as we share memories of past days together. http://www.allmorgansday.co.uk/

.............................................

A Brief History of All Morgans' Day.
During The Morgan Motor Company's Centenary Year 2009, The Morgan Centenary Roadster 100 Register Founder, David Harris, organised and ran a Centenary Event held at Waddesdon Manor, the magnificent Rothchild / National Trust, French Chateau styled Manor and estate. This event was held on behalf of the SpotMog MSCC Centre.
Later that year David Purchased Roadster 100 No. 001 and contacted me, by then the owner of No. 015, to ask him to help set up a Register for the series before the cars were lost around the globe. By the end of the year we had achieved a membership of about 10 owners.

The Apostrophe has also become important because when we issued our first invitation we were told by Morgan Sports Car Committee Member Quentin English that the apostrophe was in the wrong place so it was moved to be after the s' – Interestingly it is now precious to us in that position but is so often omitted in publications, much to our annoyance.

Combat Stress

This is why the Roadster 100 Register Fundraises In Support of Combat Stress. Our Veterans deserve every £1.00 of help that we can give them as they have given their service life mental health for us all.

The History of All Morgans' Day 2011

With Roadster 100 Production and Sales running well into late 2010, our Register Membership began to grow and it was then that David suggested running a similar event at Waddesdon in 2011.
We decided to call it All Morgans' Day because we wanted it to appeal to All Morgan Owners, particularly those owners who are not Morgan Sports Car Club Members, and to include Morgan Three Wheeler Owners as well.
Because we were raising funds for a charity, the events also had to be run for zero cost which we have managed to maintain to this day.
Originally we hoped to remain at Waddesdon Manor as it provided a fabulous backdrop for photographs, a principle that we have also tried to maintain throughout.
Interestingly, The Morgan Motor Company had also launched the new M3W Three Wheeler model in 2011 and they brought along a non running prototype to put on show next to their stand which gathered much interest.
We managed to attract 22 Roadster 100's and a total of 220 Morgans attended this year. The Event Team back then was small with David, Myself, and owners Philip Loring and Peter Jackson who together managed all of the parking and our Wives, Lynne, Ann, Linda & Sonja.
We decided to fund raise for Help for Heroes through a £5 Booking Donation with bucket collections on the day using Army Cadets but sadly the Cadets failed to turn up so we only made £1276 from bookings and from one busy bucket.

The History of All Morgans' Day 2012
Being slightly embarrassed at this low fundraising figure, In 2012, Register Member Frank Lomax decided to make a few Help 4 Heroes Street Collections featuring the Morgan and then I decided to make a 22 day Drive of the Coast of Britain in his Roadster 100 to raise another £3000.
Details of this Fundraising Trip can be viewed at...
Having previously decided to only hold All Morgans' Day's every two years, David was inspired to hold a second event at Waddesdon Manor specifically to welcome Frank back from his journey. We exceeded the number of cars previously attending and raised a further £7079 for Help 4 Heroes.

The History of All Morgans' Day 2014.

The next Waddesdon Manor All Morgans' Day event was held two years later in 2014 where we found that the popularity was in danger of exceeding the space available to us and we were forced to restrict bookings to 220 cars for the first time ever. Register Member Chris Atwood joined the team this year helping David Harris with the Meet & Greet.

We were still well supported by The Morgan Motor Company and The Morgan Sports Car Club but were still chasing the Three Wheeler Club to join in. Out trades area could only grow just a tiny bit as Waddesdon insisted we don't go on the lawns.

With the help of Help 4 Heroes they arranged for a small troop of Air Cadets to come along as well as their Merchandise sales stall. With lots of encouragement of attendees and visitors we raised donations to £4011.00

.............................................

The History of All Morgans' Day 2016

David Harris & Frank Lomax then began planning our 2016 event but were politely told by The National Trust that Waddesdon Manor would no longer be holding Car Events there in future. Where would we find such a stunning venue at no cost?

We approached Blenheim Palace as one of the few locations that could both allow us to increase our numbers and still maintain a Stunning Palace Back Drop for owners Morgan Photos.
The Blenheim Palace Team welcomed us with open arms and allowed us a High Season Sunday at no cost to us.
Bookings for this stunning venue climbed quickly to just short of 400 Morgans. This was interesting because, being a private estate, everyone also had to pay a discounted entry fee as well as our donation request.

With the massive success of Help 4 Heroes we had also decided that year to switch our fundraising to support the much smaller and needy Combat Stress, The Veterans Mental Health Charity.
Terry Seymour joined the team to help and Terry ran a very successful Raffle with numerous superb prizes producing £4000 of the total of £10,000 we raised.

On the day, the parking team grew to 27 of us with many Register Members helping direct the massive increase in Morgan traffic attending.
At the end of that year David Harris, who had already sold his Roadster100 way back in 2011, decided to retire from his Register Leadership role and passed the baton to Terry Seymour.

The History of All Morgans' Day 2018
John Barry Photos

The 2018 event was our most successful attracting 600 Morgans and the event produced Total Donations of £16,000 achieving the charity's 2018 'Extra Mile Award'.
The Team of Roadster 100 Register Member helpers grew to 30 and together with a large team from Combat Stress, and Bikers 4 Heroes managed the extra visitors Parking, Goody Bag Supply and Raffle Ticket Sales in a very slick and well honed manner.
The Blenheim Palace Team provided superb support throughout the event and helped us produce a most enjoyable and, what has proved to be, popular day in the Morgan Social Calendar.

2018 All Morgans' Day.mp4

This year, more than ever before, Morgan Owners shared their photos on Facebook, Twitter and Talk Morgan, to name a few.
MOG Magazine have reported on each of the 2012, 2016 & 2018 events and have become one of our major supporters throughout. As a central feature of our Virtual All Morgans' Day Event they have really set a high bar by providing our fantastic new All Morgans' Day Website who's Link is under the title.
If you have not already done so you can go there and join in by adding photos of your own Morgan to our Photo Gallery found there.
The Morgan Motor Company, Insurers Gott & Wynne, Morgan Car Badges, The Morgan Sports Car Club, The Morgan Three Wheeler Club and a host of other Superb Suppliers to the Morgan Ownership have been fantastic in supporting us throughout this difficult time for which we offer them our sincere thanks..

Combat Stress

Darren Jackson is our Registers link into Combat Stress and while Chris & Rosemary Atwood visited Tyrwhitt House in Leatherhead, the Combat Stress Headquarters in the South, Darren borrowed the Morgan to say a few words about the work they do and how our fundraising helps them provide their essential Mental Health Services to our Veterans.

Virtual All Morgans' Day 2018

The Morgan Roadster 100 Register have been overwhelmed by the way the Morgan community have taken the first Virtual All Morgans’ Day under their wing.
Around 600 photos of Morgans have been posted from around the world - each photo telling an interesting story.
This is the third All Morgans’ Day where we’ve been supporting Combat Stress - looking after the mental health of UK veterans. COVID-19 has put untold additional pressure on veterans, at a time when their normal ways of supporting veterans have been disrupted.
As such, it is with great pride that we make an initial donation of £12,000 to Combat Stress from Virtual All Morgans’ Day 2020 - with further donations to come over the next few weeks.

We’ll be working with Combat Stress over the next few weeks as we decide how the Virtual All Morgans’ Day 2020 donation will be used. Sincere thanks to everyone who has donated and participated in Virtual All Morgans’ Day 2020.
We look forward to seeing everyone in person at the next All Morgans’ Day. In the meantime, please continue to post photos, and stay safe.
With thanks,
Virtual All Morgans Day, - Hosted by the Morgan Centenary Roadster 100 Register

Then There was 2020, Coronavirus and the need to Postpone......

It is now 5.30pm and the Gates to our Virtual Blenheim Palace lock at 6pm.
As this busy day draws to a close we hope that you have enjoyed the nostalgia through these many photos and a little music in accompaniment.
This years All Morgans’ Day was due to be our Sixth Bi-Annual Morgan Social Day out in 2020.
It, like all other All Morgans' Days, was to be for all Morgan enthusiasts including Morgan owners of all models and ages, private owners and club members.
During our previous events, from 2011 to 2018, popularity grew to over 600 Morgan Cars being displayed around the Blenheim Palace building and grounds in the glorious weather.
2020 would have hopefully increased in popularity but sadly, it was not to be. Covid 19 decended upon us mystically and spoilt everything.
The All Morgans' Day Events are supported by displays from The Morgan Motor Company, The Morgan Sports Car Club, The Morgan Three Wheeler Club and a variety of Morgan Dealerships and Related Trades who have also grown in number with us, joining in to provide such a wonderful day out.
Of course, we must never forget that non of this would be at all possible without the Extreme Generocity of the Duke of Marlborough's Blenheim Palace Team now and National Trust's Team at Waddesdon Manor before.
Equally, our Support for Combat Stress would not be possible without the hundreds of generous Morgan and Other Donors who also Support Combat Stress through our fundraising activities.
Thank You All and we look forward to the New Normal when we can revive or All Morgans' Day once more.
Nola & Terry, Rosemary & Chris, Carol & Robert and Ann & Frank

Virtual All Morgans' Day Update
Yesterday was a superb event which was so well supported by the International Morgan Community, evidenced by visiting our New Website provided by MOG Magazine..http://www.mogmag.co.uk/ which you can always access here..
Take a wander through the pages of photos posted by visitors there over the last few days. Please visit and post yours when you have time.
The star event of the day was the eBay Auction for the unique and wonderful Gilt Car Badge kindly donated to us by Hermen Pol of Morgan Car Badges.https://www.morgancarbadges.com/. which raised a stunning £550.00 in support of Combat Stress.
The Badge, which is staying in the United Kingdom will presumably be the star in someone's exclusive collection. A Big Thank You to who ever you are.
More information will be forthcoming later when we have the update on total donations made throughout the day.
Thank you to everyone who participated and like all things 'Internet' the presentations and website will remain in the ether together for future enjoyment.
The Morgan Centenary Roadster 100 All Morgans' Day Team.
