The Route Maps I used for My Coastal Journey

As an addition to the daily record of my journey around the British Coastal Road, I thought that it may be of interest to readers to be able to study the Maps that I used to aid navigation.

I realised early on that roads when driving appear completely different to those on the map and in some cases the road numbers have changed just to confuse matters.

The Balloons marked on are Petrol Stations which were important to know with a pending Petrol Tanker Drivers Strike, which fortunately never happened.

I have also marked some National Trust Properties that I was going to try and visit. Time pressures prevented me from using any of those.

The Dots with circles around are my overnight stop locations.

Map 1. Here I am making my way around the M25 to the Dartford Crossing (my official starting place) heading for Southend on Sea.

A complicated drive for me of 293 miles. This was too long for my first day causing me to have to drive through most places without time to stop and explore.

    1. It was the best think I have ever done and I have been to some places over time. It cost my £3k in Fuel & accommodation but I would do it gain tomorrow given the chance. I would take a few more days to stop off a bit in places I had to dash through last time. Anticlockwise is the way to go as it is safe looking across the oncoming traffic. Parts of the country normally on visited for a day at the seaside.

    3. I bought an A4 Size AtoZ Map Book (£12.95 at the time)and colour Photo Copied each of the pages I needed.
I then drew the Route lines on each page and took these with me in a file of plastic sleeves.
When I returned I scanned them back in to my computer for this Blog Page.
      I hope that this helps
      Best Wishes

    1. Thanks for the kind comments. I chose to drive around 200 miles a day and the whole trip took 22 days at that rate.
Given I was doing the trip again I would add a few days to allow for more time at some of the stunning locations along the way.
      Best Wishes
